How to Clean a Diesel Storage Tank: Industrial Mixer Professional Guide
Professionals in the industrial mixer field know the importance of maintaining diesel storage tanks, crucial for ensuring clean fuel supply and efficient mixer performance. This article covers “how to clean a diesel storage tank” using safe, effective steps to reduce contamination, downtime, and operational risks.
Why Clean Your Diesel Storage Tank?
- Prevents Contamination: Reduces moisture, microbial growth, sludge, and sediment that compromise fuel quality (Source: (https://www.dieselforum.org/)).
- Promotes Equipment Longevity: Clean tanks mean fewer fuel system issues and longer equipment lifespans.
- Ensures Compliance: Meets safety and environmental regulations by removing hazardous buildup (Source: (https://www.epa.gov/)).
When Should You Clean a Diesel Storage Tank?
- Annually or Bi-annually: For high-volume operations.
- After Detecting Contamination: On fuel filter changeouts or evidence of sludge.
- Before Switching Fuel Types: To avoid cross-contamination.
- If Storage Exceeds 6 Months: Reduces risk of microbial growth and separation.
Step-by-Step: How to Clean a Diesel Storage Tank
1. Prepare for Cleaning
- Purge and isolate the tank from all fuel lines.
- Wear proper PPE: gloves, goggles, and anti-static gear.
- Obtain appropriate permits and follow local safety regulations.
2. Remove Remaining Diesel
- Pump out all residual fuel; store in approved containers or dispose of as per regulations.
- Use an industrial mixer or agitator if heavily sludged.
3. Mechanical Cleaning
- Manually scrape or vacuum the tank interior to remove heavy sludge and deposits.
- Use non-sparking, industrial cleaning tools to avoid ignition hazards.
4. Chemical Cleaning
- Apply a recommended tank cleaning solution or biocide to break down microbial contamination, following product instructions (Source: (https://www.astm.org/)).
- Allow adequate dwell time; agitate with a tank mixer to maximize contact.
5. Rinse and Inspect
- Thoroughly rinse with clean water or a mild solvent.
- Visually inspect for remaining debris, rust, or damage.
- Test for water presence with fuel test paste; repeat cleaning if necessary.
6. Dry and Recommission
- Use air blowers or dryers to ensure the tank is moisture-free.
- Replace or clean fuel filters and lines prior to system restart.
- Refill with filtered, high-quality diesel.
Best Practices for Ongoing Diesel Tank Maintenance
- Install Tank Mixers: Maximizes fuel homogeneity; reduces sludge risk.
- Monitor Fuel Quality: Test regularly with ASTM-recommended procedures.
- Control Condensation: Maintain full tanks and temperature regulation.
- Schedule Routine Cleanings: Based on tank size, type, and usage.
Industry Compliance and References
- Follow EPA and OSHA safety protocols for hazardous material handling.
- Cited sources: Diesel Technology Forum, ASTM, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
By adopting these best practices, industrial mixer professionals can keep diesel storage tanks clean, minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment reliability.

Vacuum Homogneizer
Can you explain the difference between homogenizer mixing tank and agitator mixing tank?
Homogenizer mixer is also called high shear mixer, whose core function is micronization and homogenization. The homogenization process enables the dispersion size in the suspension or emulsion to be micron fine particles by mechanical force of rotor and stator, thereby improving the stability and uniformity of the product.
The agitator mixing tank is just with normal blending function, just mix different materials together, but can’t mix two incompatible liquids together.
Automatic auger filling machine
Is the material hopper of the powder dispenser machine openable?
Yes, the visual hopper can be easy open and disassembled for easy cleaning and parts replacement.
Liquid Soap Mixer
Can you provide liquid soap formula and train service?
Yes, we can provide different formulas, and teach client how to adjust the formula flexibly.
Homogenizing Mixer
Does the chemical mixer tank has jacket?
Yes, the liquid mixing machine with homogenizer is with jacket. Normally there are double jackets, one is for heating or cooling, the other is for insulation and protection. There is also single layer type. Clients can tell us specific function or consult us for recommendation.
Horizontal Filling Machine
What’s the filling range of this semi auto filler?
There are different sizes of air cylinders. Therefore there are the following filling range:5-60g, 10-120g, 20-200g, 30-300g, 50-500g, 100-1000g, 200-2000g, 300-3000g, 500-5000g. Please tell the minimum bottle and maximum bottle capacity, suitable types of filling machine model will be recommended.
